This post is personal. Two years ago, my dad passed away unexpectedly. To honor him, I’ve started reviewing the vehicles he loved most. His 2019 Ford Expedition Limited was one of his absolute favorites, and this review is my way of preserving the memories tied to it.
For this ride, my daughter Ella joined me as a guest TSTDRVR. Her honest reactions and genuine excitement added something really special to the experience. I know my dad would have loved that.
From the moment you step inside, it is clear this is a premium SUV. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, stitched dash, and wood and chrome accents give it an upscale and refined feel. Even though the interior shares design cues with my F-150, the quality and comfort take the experience to another level. The leather seats in particular feel incredible, and they are a big step up from the Katzkin leather I installed in my truck.
Ella quickly pointed out the third-row seating and panoramic sunroof as her favorite features. She also said she thought it would be a great family vehicle, and she was right. This SUV was built to bring people together.
The Expedition comes packed with useful tech. It includes Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 system, full surround-view cameras, parking sensors, and the ability to parallel or perpendicular park itself. The cabin is whisper-quiet, making it easy to carry on conversations with people in the third row without raising your voice.
Under the hood, the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 delivers 375 horsepower through a 10-speed transmission. I have never been fully convinced by the 10-speed in my F-150, but in this setup, it pairs well with the engine. It pulls strong from a stop, and the subtle exhaust tone adds a nice touch without being overbearing. It sounds good, not like a typical raspy V6.
The ride is soft and comfortable. This is not a corner-carver, and it is not trying to be. It is designed for comfort, and it succeeds in that goal. The only drawback is fuel economy. During our local test drive, we averaged around 15 miles per gallon. That is not great, but it is understandable for a vehicle of this size.
This was my dad’s third Ford Expedition. He started with a 1998 model, which I loved for its rugged, truck-like design. He later upgraded to a 2012 model, which never really stood out. But this 2019 version felt like Ford got everything right. It became the family road trip vehicle, the one we all piled into for vacations and long drives. It was where we laughed, listened to music, and made memories together.
My dad didn’t just own this vehicle. He used it to bring his family closer, and that is what made it special.
