Some upgrades completely change the way a truck feels. Others simply sharpen what is already there. This install does both.

In our latest TSTDRVR video, we installed the F150LEDs RGB LED Door Sill Lighting kit on our 2018 Ford F-150, and the result is exactly the kind of subtle but striking upgrade we love. It is clean, customizable, and adds just the right amount of presence every time someone opens the door.

If you enjoy using lighting to personalize your truck and separate it from the sea of stock F-150s on the road, this is one of those upgrades that makes an immediate impression without requiring a complicated install.

Why we wanted this upgrade

We have added several LED-based enhancements to this F-150 over time, so illuminated door sills felt like a natural next step. They are one of those features that instantly make a truck feel more premium and more custom at the same time.

What makes this kit especially appealing is that it is not limited to one look. With RGB functionality and a remote included, you can dial in the color that fits your build. Whether you want a crisp white glow, something that matches OEM interior lighting more closely, or a bolder color for shows or meets, the flexibility is there.

What comes in the kit

The F150LEDs kit includes matte-finish illuminated door sills, wiring to connect the full setup across the vehicle, a remote for color control, and alcohol wipes to prep the surfaces before installation. It is clear that the kit is designed to make the install process as straightforward as possible.

One detail worth noting is that one side includes a longer wire, which is necessary on this truck because the power connection is made on the passenger side. That extra length allows everything to route cleanly from the driver side across the cab.

Installation overview

The install itself is simple, but like most clean-looking installs, the difference is in the details.

We started by removing the trim pieces, cleaning the mounting surfaces, and test fitting the new door sills to make sure the placement was exactly where we wanted it. The goal was to tuck them close enough to the weather stripping so the lighting would project forward cleanly without revealing anything behind the sill.

From there, it was just a matter of feeding the wiring carefully beneath the trim and weather stripping so it stayed hidden, securing the sills with the included 3M backing, and repeating the process at each door.

Once everything was routed toward the rear passenger area, we tapped into the appropriate wiring on the passenger side. Since we had previously wired running board lights on this truck, the power and ground locations were already familiar, which made the final connection even easier.

The best part is how tucked away the finished setup is. With the wiring routed behind the trim and the main connector hidden near the rear power inverter area, the install looks remarkably clean. It genuinely feels close to factory once buttoned up.

The finished result

This is where the payoff happens.

As soon as the system powered on, the truck took on a noticeably more refined feel. The door sills add that extra visual layer that people notice the second they step in. It is one of those upgrades that does not scream for attention, but absolutely gets it.

The color options are a big part of the appeal. You can run white, blue, green, red, and more, adjust brightness, and even change the mood depending on what you want the truck to feel like. For us, the sweet spot is probably something that complements the truck’s OEM lighting style while keeping the brightness a bit more restrained. But if you want something more dramatic, this kit can absolutely deliver that too.

Our take

This is an easy recommendation.

The F150LEDs RGB LED Door Sill Lighting kit is simple to install, looks great, and adds a high-end custom touch that enhances the truck every single time the doors open. It pairs especially well with other lighting upgrades, and on our build, it fits right in with the rest of the F-150 LED pieces we have already installed.

For an upgrade that does not require major teardown or major fabrication, the visual return is strong. It is the kind of mod that makes your truck feel more finished.
